Facebook Relationship Status: SMOKER

Picture
Despite the mysterious and even romantic allure of cigarettes (as shown repeatedly in popular media), tobacco has never positively improved someone's social status. In fact, quite the opposite is true.  Cigarettes actually deter a smoker from making new friends or being accepted in social situations.  One of the more common reasons individuals are considered unsuitable for peer or romantic relationships is that non-smokers generally do not want to strike-up a relationship with a smoker.

Although it may sound a bit harsh, the fact is that to a non-smoker, people who smoke...well...they smell.  The smell like smoke.  They smell like stale smoke.  And, to be honest (someone has to say it), it's not a odour that anyone really appreciates.

It sounds shocking to say that, "people who smoke are different".  But, then again, in many ways, they are different.  Their hair smells and loses its lustre.  Their clothes smell.  People who smoke have stained teeth.  Their breath smells.  Remember that old TV ad about kissing an ashtray?  You get the picture.  It's not a plus; that's for sure.

Consider the cold hard fact that most teens do not smoke.  Only 18% of Canadian teens smoke.  That means that if you're a Canadian teen, on average, 82% of the people at your high school do not smoke.

Let's get real about this:
If you smoke, you're effectively making it more difficult to form close relationships with 82 out of every 100 people around you.
